Excel for Business – Advanced Formulas and Functions

Working with data is part of everyone’s role and learning how to harness the power of Excel to improve productivity and efficiency is the becoming increasingly important for individuals, teams and companies to succeed. This one-day course builds on existing knowledge of simple formulas and enables participants to use advanced formulas and functions to extract rich management information for business decision-making in diverse areas such as sales, projects, budgets, forecasts, and human resources. Using a real-world scenario, participants will have learnt how to construct formulas and use Excel’s inbuilt advanced functions in large data sets to extract business information.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Logical functions – automate tasks by testing values in other cells and performing actions dependent upon the result of the tests.
  • Lookup and reference functions - work with arrays of data and cross reference between different data sets.
  • Date and time functions - extract information from, and perform operations on dates and times
  • Conditional functions - create logical arguments to automate “If (this), then (that)”
  • Text functions – manipulate strings to help work with names, addresses, customer lists, or any other text-based data
  • Reference functions – create references from text, create a reference to a range
